As the fresh snowfall was witnessed in various parts of Kashmir valley on Monday, the Power Development Department (PDD) said the damage caused in the distribution lines has led to power breakdown in various places including Srinagar.

Talking to KNS, PDD chief engineer Bashir Ahmad Khan said if weather improves, the damage caused in the system shall be rectified at an earliest. He added that in various areas of South Kashmir, the reports have been received about the power breakdown in various areas. “The entire team is on tenterhooks to repair the damaged lines. It is being strived to restore electricity supply at an earliest.”

He said in Srinagar, there has been damage caused in various areas and particularly in the old city. “Due to congestion in power lines, the electricity supply had got affected in various areas. In some localities, the power has been restored and in other parts, the PDD men are working.”

Khan added that the power system affected due to the latest snowfall was not serious and with minor incidents, the electricity overall remained hassle free in valley on Monday. He maintained that if in some areas, the supplies are disrupted; same shall be rectified once the weather conditions get improved.

Pertinently, people in various areas complained on Monday about the erratic power supply, saying that the snowfall of few inches has made PDD to go for unscheduled power cuts.

In various areas of Srinagar city , people were up in arms against the state authorities demanding immediate restoration of power that according to them got disrupted without any reason.
