On Wednesday, Special Operations Group (SOG) of Police showed up at city centre Lal Chowk and conducted a surprise security checking in the area.
The checking beefed up a bygone “nightmarish” security sense in onlookers—when forces would appear suddenly at any spot in city to subject civilians through sudden and surprise security checking.
SOG men with covered faces were seen intercepting vehicles and passersby to check their belongings besides identity.
A young SOG officer on the spot, who was seen interacting with the newsmen, remained tight-lipped about the reason behind the checking.
Today’s surprise checking has come at the time when many separatist leaders have condemned and expressed concern over the fresh crackdowns in many villages of Pulwama and nocturnal raids in Old Srinagar.
