Doda police on Monday arrested an officer of the Special Operation Group (SOG) for allegedly providing arms and ammunition to local youth and later on, arresting them. Though the arrested officer is a sub inspector in SOG, but he is known as a very high profile officer who has been in a way heading the local SOG for a period of more than three years.

Arif Rishu, Superintendent of Police (SP) Doda, while talking to Kashmir Life confirmed the arrest of SOG officer, Shive Krishen alias Sonu. “We have taken him on ten days police remand from Chief Judicial Majistrate Doda today,” SP informed.

A police officer revealed to KL that arrested SOG officer, Sonu was arrested, after getting some inputs from the already arrested youngsters that, he allegedly used to provide arms and ammunition to poor youngsters especially those who were working as home servants in the area. “Sonu probably used to provide arms to poor youth and later on, arresting them only to exhibit his worth. He is being interrogated and the modus operandi used by him is being ascertained,” the officer said on the condition of anonymity.

The whole matter came to fore when police arrested five youngsters in connection with the grenade attack on Thathri police station on April 28, 2013. Police sources said that the grenade hurled on the police station did not explode and an FIR No 33/2013 US 307 RPC, and ¾ explosive Act was lodged in this connection.

They added that police started investigations into the grenade hurling incident and arrested five local youth who are being questioned. Detained include Abdul Rashid son of Mohammad Iqbal resident of Tanta, Mohammad Youqub son of Fatteh Mohammad resident of Bathri, Altaf Hussain son of Nazir Ahmad resident of Thathri, Mohammad Rafiq son of Mohammad Ibrahim Gujar resident of Patnanji Bonzwa and Akhtar Hussain son of Shawkat Ahmad Magray resident of Tanta.

Some hand grenades and an AK56 rifle were recovered from the arrested youth who during the interrogation revealed that the said arms and ammunition were provided to them by the arrested SOG officer, police sources said.

The arrested youth, as per police, also revealed that Sonu has provided arms and ammunition to a number of poor youth as well who were later arrested or killed during “encounters”.

Doda police on Monday, arrested Sonu and started questioning him.

“We have taken ten days remand of Sonu who has revealed a number of things but we can’t share them because that can hamper our investigation,” Asif Rishu, SP Doda told Kashmir Life.
