The accused, identified as Ajay Panchal, was arrested shortly after the incident on Tuesday, according to Chakur police officials.

Police said Panchal, who has completed education up to class 12, was preparing for police recruitment exams and had repeatedly asked his father, Devidas Kashiram Panchal, for financial support, reports NDTV.

On Monday night, heavy rains soaked the household’s firewood, prompting the victim’s wife to purchase a gas cylinder for immediate use. When Ajay discovered the purchase, he confronted his parents, claiming they had money for the cylinder but not for his exam fees.

Despite his mother assuring him that the money would be arranged by morning, Ajay allegedly demanded it immediately. Early on Tuesday, the dispute escalated, and he struck his father on the head with a wooden stick, killing him on the spot, police said.

Neighbours alerted by the commotion arrived at the scene, and following a complaint by the victim’s wife, police registered a murder case against Ajay and took him into custody.
