President AICC Sonia Gandhi and vice president Rahul Gandhi concluded their two days tour of the state, Tuesday.

They visited Mantapora, Dooru (Islamabad), Beeru & Budgam and also held review meeting with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and other ministers belonging to National Conference and Indian National Congress at Cheshmashahi-Srinagar, Monday.

Accompanied by General Secretary AICC Incharge J&K Ambika Soni, Leader of Opposition Rajaya Sabha Shri Ghulam Nabi Azad-(MP) and President JKPCC Prof. Saifuddin Soz-(MP), they visited Poonch and Surankote and concluded their tour at Jammu.

“They got fullest details of death and destruction due to unprecedented floods in Srinagar city, South Kashmir, Central Kashmir and elsewhere,” the Congress handout read. “In the review meeting at Srinagar the visiting leaders were told that while the death toll in Kashmir was 84 and a colossal loss of one hundred thousand crores was caused by these floods.”

They met the flood victims at Poonch and Surankote, today. In the review meeting at Jammu the leaders were told that the heavy rains and floods have caused death of 184 persons in Jammu province, while property worth thousands of crores were lost. The leaders were also given detail of the rehabilitation plan.

“Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi expressed great anguish on the situation of death and destruction in the state and expressed sense of urgency for the rehabilitation in view of the fast approaching winter season,” the statement read.

They met flood affected people of different parts of Jammu district at Jammu and distributed some relief amongst them. They also met the representatives of Sikh Community of Nowshera whose nears and dears one lost their precious lives during the floods and conveyed their heartfelt sympathies with them.
