Police Monday evening detailed the Sopore encounter in which two militants including Divisional Commander of HM North Kashmir were killed.

According to police spokesman, acting on a specific information, Sopore police along with 22 RR and 179 Bn, 177 Bn, 92Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in Check-e-Brath area of Sopore. During searches, hiding terrorists fired upon joint search party, ensuing an encounter.

“Two terrorists were killed in the encounter who were later identified as Pervaiz Ahmad Wani resident of Galoora Handwara, Divisional Commander of HM and Naeem Ahmad Najar son of Ghulam Hassan Najar resident of Shelpora Brath, Sopore.”

Spokesman said “two AK rifles, three AK magazines, 90 AK rounds, One INSAS rifle, one INSAS Magazine, 13 INSAS rounds and other ammunition was recovered from the encounter site.”

Police says these militants were involved in many “anti national and anti social activities.”

“Pervaiz Ahmad was involved in the serial blast on mobile towers in 2015 and was also involved in a series of civilian/ Police killings and various attacks on Police/Security forces.”

Police further said he was involved in killing of two police personnel in Handwara market in 2013. “He was involved in attack on Police Post Langate in 2016, attack on Army in Handwara and attack on SBI Sopore.”

Spokesman said Pervaiz along with Nayeem was involved in the killing of Eid-ul-Amin resident of Maqboolabad Behrampora. Parvaiz was also involved in the killing of Fayaz Ahmad resident of Saidpora Tragpora Rafiabad and killing of Suhail Ahmad Dar resident of Kachloo Khaipora Kralgund.

Besides he was instrumental in recruiting and indoctrinating many youths in HM in North Kashmir.
