Srinagar

A complete shutdown is being observed in Sopore town and its adjacent areas in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, on Saturday against the militant killings.

Reports said that all shops and business establishments remained closed to protest the militant killings. Forces have been deployed at many places of town including at main chowk, tehsil road, Arampora, and Chankhan in order to prevent any untoward incidents, witnesses said.

Earlier authorities have decided to close down all educational institutions in Sopore division on Saturday as a precautionary measure.

Notably, two militants were killed in a brief encounter in Drusoo village in Rafiabad belt of Sopore on early Friday after a joint team of police, CRPF, and army cordoned the village.

The slain militants were later identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar of Naseerabad Sopore and Khursheed Ahmad Malik of Aarihal Pulwama.

In the gunfight one soldier identified as Vijay Kumar was also killed and a cop identified as Irfan Ahmad Wani had sustained injuries in the operation.

Thousands of people later participated in the funeral prayers of both the militants at their respective ancestral villages.
