SRINAGAR: Suspected militants stepped up their actions on Eid and in the latest incident an inspector rank officer of the Jammu and Kashmir Police was killed at his residence in Pulwama. He was on leave to spend time with his family on Eid.

Identified as Mohammad Ashraf Dar, at least three suspected militants have raided his Larve residence in Pulwama. They fired at him and he died instantly. Dar was serving in Budgam and was on leave. The exact details of the raid are yet not known.

In Shopian, the kidnapped former SPO Shakoor Parray was found by his father in Arshipora village. He had been kidnapped by unidentified men on Tuesday from his shop in Kundalan. Reports said he was carrying a bullet injury in his pelvic region and was removed to the hospital. He is stable and out of danger.

Earlier in the day, militants barged into the residence of Station House Officer of Tral police station. A residence of Khiram, he was not at home, however. After finding him absent, the militants opened fire in the air and left in anger.

Another report, confirmed by the police said the militants barged into the residence of sub-inspector DilbarAhad in Dairoo village of Shopian. He managed his safety and when militants came to know about his escape, they damaged his home.

Later in the evening, a cordon and search operation started in Awhatoo village of Kulgam. Though the composition of the counter-insurgency grid that has cordoned the village was not immediately known, reports said the operation started after the presence of militants was reported.

A police spokesman said held Hizb militants responsible for the killing of Mohammad Yaqoob Shah of Loswani. IG Kashmir SP Pani drove to Pulwama and attended the wreath laying event of the slain cop in DPL Pulwama. The spokesman, in a separate statement, said the attack was lethal as a result of which the police officer succumbed to his injuries. He termed teh attacks as “cowardice”.

The day witnessed the killing of a cop in Kulgam, and later another cop was killed in Pulwama. The killing of dar is third in the row. The raids coincided with the new governor arriving for the Thursday takeover in Srinagar.
