SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday apprehended a man during routine security checks along the Amarnath Yatra route after the Facial Recognition System (FRS) flagged his alleged involvement in a case registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), officials said.
According to police, the suspect was intercepted at Langanbal during routine checking as part of the security arrangements for the ongoing Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
The individual was identified as Danish Amin Reshi, son of Mohd Amin Reshi and a resident of Veersaran. During verification, the Facial Recognition System generated an alert indicating his alleged involvement in an earlier criminal case.
Subsequent verification revealed that he is an accused in FIR No. 24/2021, registered under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) at Police Station Pahalgam, police said.
The accused was immediately taken into custody for further legal proceedings in accordance with the law.
Police said the Anantnag Police continue to deploy advanced technological tools, including the Facial Recognition System, as part of the multi-layered security grid established for SANJY-2026 to strengthen security along the pilgrimage route.
