SRINAGAR: Police in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday registered four cases under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and arrested five individuals during coordinated operations across the district, officials said.
Acting on specific inputs and during naka checking at multiple locations, police teams effected several seizures of contraband substances and intercepted suspected traffickers.
At Sagam Kokernag, a police naka party from Police Station Kokernag intercepted a Maruti Suzuki Fronx (registration JK03Q-4233) which attempted to flee. Two occupants, identified as Aqib Nissar Rangraze of Anantnag and Umar Yousuf Mahroo of Kishtwar, were apprehended. A search led to the recovery of 13.36 grams of heroin-like substance. FIR No. 39/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act was registered.
At Mehmoodabad Bridge, a naka party of Police Station Dooru arrested Rameez Bashir Bhat of Tilwangund, with 2.65 grams of heroin-like substance recovered from his possession. FIR No. 64/2026 was registered.
In another operation at Gutligund, a police party from PP Verinag apprehended Sabzar Ahmed Sofi of Hallan Verinag. Search led to the recovery of 92 grams of charas powder and 20 grams of charas. FIR No. 63/2026 was registered at Police Station Dooru.
In a separate routine patrol at Khrety Lovlupora, police from Police Station Larnoo intercepted Adil Ahmad Sheikh of Larnoo and recovered 2.300 kilograms of ganja along with 18 grams of charas. FIR No. 23/2026 was registered.
All the accused have been arrested and investigations are ongoing.
Police reiterated their commitment to intensifying action against drug trafficking networks and urged the public to cooperate by sharing information related to narcotics activities.
