SRINAGAR: Police in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act following a complaint alleging the sexual assault of a minor child, officials said on Sunday.
Acting on the complaint, Police Station Awantipora registered FIR No. 143/2026 under relevant provisions of the POCSO Act and launched an investigation into the case.
Police said the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), Pulwama, was informed immediately in accordance with prescribed procedures. A police team facilitated the medical examination of the child and completed all necessary legal and procedural formalities.
Officials said medical evidence has been collected and secured as part of the ongoing investigation.
The accused has been identified by police, while further details have been withheld in view of the sensitive nature of the case and to protect the identity of the minor.
Police said the investigation is continuing and all aspects of the case are being examined.
Awantipora Police reiterated their commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of children and urged the public to promptly report any crimes against minors to the nearest police station.
