South Kashmir: Police Seize 12 Vehicles During Illegal Mineral Extraction Crackdown

   

SRINAGAR: Police have intensified action against illegal mineral extraction in South Kashmir, seizing multiple vehicles involved in unauthorized mining and transportation across Shopian, Pulwama, and Anantnag districts.

In Shopian, police seized four tractors, two tippers, and two JCBs being used for illegal extraction and movement of minerals from multiple locations. During routine patrolling, Police Post Wachi intercepted a tractor operating without valid permission, leading to the registration of FIR No. 50/2026 at Police Station Zainapora.

In a separate operation, police from Police Station Shopian raided the Rambiara Nallah area near Aglar Fruit Mandi, where two tippers and two JCBs were found engaged in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals without authorization. A case was registered under FIR No. 50/2026, and investigation is in progress.

Acting on specific information, police at Shrimal Link Road under Police Station Zainapora intercepted three tractors involved in illegal mineral extraction without royalty documents. FIR No. 51/2026 has been registered in this connection.

In Pulwama, a dumper carrying illegally extracted sand was seized, while in Anantnag, police in the Kokernag area confiscated three tractors involved in unlawful mining during three separate incidents. FIR Nos. 20/2026, 21/2026, and 22/2026 have been registered.

Police reiterated their commitment to curbing illegal mining across South Kashmir and safeguarding natural resources. They also urged the public to report such activities, assuring confidentiality and strict action against violators.
