The renaming ceremony was officiated by Director General of Police (DGP) Dilbag Singh, and it was attended by the late police officer’s father, retired IGP Ghulam Hassan Bhat.

During his address to the audience, Singh expressed that the police had been seeking a way to commemorate Humayun Muzammil in the Anantnag district ever since he sacrificed his life in the line of duty. Singh recalled the day of the encounter when he was on-site, mentioning that they knew their colleague was injured along with some Army officers. Despite their best efforts, they were unable to facilitate a timely evacuation.

Singh further conveyed that prior to his passing, Muzammil had the chance to speak with his father and wife. There was hope that his life could have been saved with a timely evacuation, but, as Singh pointed out, sometimes circumstances on the ground dictate outcomes beyond our control. He remarked that the decisions about life’s journey are sometimes made elsewhere.
