A complete shutdown is being observed in south Kashmir districts on Saturday to mourn the killings of six militants in a gunfight with the government forces in Bijbehara area of Islamabad town on Friday.

Reports said that complete shutdown is being observed in Kulgam, Islamabad and Pulwama districts while the partial shutdown is being observed in Shopian.

They said that all the shops and other business establishments in parts of south Kashmir are closed, and traffic is off the roads.

Reports said that people from the Islamabad and its neighboring districts are visiting the residence of the militants to offer condolences to the families.

On Friday, the encounter begun during pre-dawn hours after a joint team of army and SOG launched a cordon-and-search operation at  Bijbehara village following specific inputs about the presence of some militants. As such the joint team of forces intensified the searches and fired some warning shots towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants opened fire triggering off a gunfight in which six militants of Lashkar-e-Toiba and Hizb ul-Mujahideen outfits were killed.
