Soz Calls Delhi Police Behavior ‘atrocious’, Writes To PM

KL Report

Accusing Delhi Police of resorting to atrocities, PCC Chief Prof. Saif ud din Soz on Friday wrote a letter to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, urging him to personally look into the case of two Srinagar boys who have been rearrested after being evicted of all charges in 1996 Lajpath Nagar blast.

“I would like to bring to your notice the atrocious behavior of Delhi Police in the discharge of their duty.

It is extremely deplorable that the Delhi Police arrested two Kashmiri boys Mirza Nisar  Hussain  and Mohammad Ali Bhat (of Srinagar Kashmir) in 1996 in connection with the blasts in Delhi’s Lajpatnagar market and then subjected them to indescribable atrocities for sixteen years.   The Delhi High Court in its judgment has found that the Police was wrong in its action against these two boys. (they were 16 years old  in1996) and ordered their immediate release.

Now, the Police have arrested them again in some other case and the family of these two men (now around 32 years of age) are not in a position to move the court again.” Soz said in his letter to PM, a copy of which lies with KNS.

He added, “ Incidentally, it goes to the credit of Outlook Magazine that it published facts in its issue of December, 2012.  How can the police be allowed to lock up people for years?  There has to be a system in which justice is ensured within a short period of time.

I make a strong plea for immediate release of these two persons and it is thereafter that the Police should arraign them in a special court, if they have any credible evidence against them.

In the meantime, these two persons and their families must receive adequate compensation.

I would also make a strong  plea for the rehabilitation of these two persons.  In my opinion, the Home Ministry should go into the question of punishing the Police Officers found responsible for lodging false complaints and for conducting fictitious investigations.

You may kindly appreciate that the stories of such atrocities against innocent persons create a havoc for efforts of those members of the Civil society who work tirelessly for creating an atmosphere of understanding and reconciliation in Kashmir.” Soz hoped

That PM will look into this matter personally and bring the wrong doers to justice.
