Strongly condemning the police assault on video journalist, Inayat Ullah who had reportedly video graphed the controversial hate speech by National Conference leader Dr Farooq Abdullah which had been used by a prominent TV channel, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday criticized the government for  its intolerance and lack of any goodwill towards the media fraternity in Kashmir.

In a statement issued to KNS, the party chief spokesperson, Naeem Akhtar said the journalist was beaten mercilessly by police in Sonawari and shifted by the locals and colleagues to a hospital in a serious condition. Reports said the journalist along with other colleagues was trying to shoot the demonstration against local MLA and minister who was on tour to the area. “There needs to be a probe into the incident especially the possibility of Inayat being targeted for having recorded Dr Farooq Abdullah’s statement that has caused an outrage all around,”

Naeem said though the ruling government will be known more for unleashing war with every section of the society the media persons too remained its soft target over the last more than five years as their only ‘fault’ is that they want to tell the actual story to the people. Akhtar said this is not the first that this government has maltreated people from press and other media but in the past as well it has employed every possible method to silence them.

The Chief spokesperson said the district SP of Bandipora is behaving like a worker of the ruling NC and it was unfortunate that the ECI was not taking any action on his biased attitude. The police officer is being used in Bandipur to create atmosphere of fear so that people stay away from polling to benefit NC which otherwise would be swept away by the strong wave against the coalition government.
