First Marathon of the season 2013 themed “PROUDLY KASHMIRI” was organized by Space Communications in collaboration with the private schools of the Valley. As many as 2013 students, participated in the Marathon were flagged off by Minister for Tourism, Ghulam Ahmad Mir.

While interacting with participants, the Minister for Tourism said, “Today is a great Morning for me and it is so special to share this morning with so many kids from Shaher-e-Khas. Proudly Kashmiri is the apt title for this campaign”, the Minister added proud of his identity.

As per a statement the Minster has expressed a desire to take all the children of the valley on local, national and world tour in order to provide exposure and learning experience to them. He further added, “Today this two hour journey has been a great experience for me. I am so relaxed and the thoughts of these kids have made me proudly. I am sure that our future is going to be in safe hands. All of you are talented and can compete with anyone in the country or outside.” He further said that all the students sitting here should be the promoters and ambassadors of Kashmir, its rich heritage, art and culture. He has also appreciated the efforts of Space Communications and congratulated organizers for such a fantastic event.

The Marathon started from duck park foreshore at 07.30am and after a walk of nearly one hour ended at the Auditorium Hall of Kashmir University. MLA Budgam who was also present at the occasion has said that these activities make us physically and mentally healthy. “Kashmir needs such marathons and it labs so nice to see these little buds smiling and the way they are enjoying the walk”,Aga Ruhullah added.

Among others, Aga Ruhullah, MLA Budgam, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Farooq Ahmad Shah, SSP Traffic Srinagar, Chief Executive Officer, Space Communications besides the first marathon walk was also joined by prominent citizens, doctors, educationists, artists, social activists, media professionals, senior citizens and various other dignitaries of the Valley.

The students presented various cultural and art performances group of four artists from Callisto presented a painting to the Minister for Tourism which was drawn by them on spot and  themed as Run for Love and make Kashmir bright and prosperous. Various performances presented by students included Naat, laughter presentations, solo Kashmiri songs and many more. As a token of appreciation Minister awarded Rs 5000 to each artist.

Chief Executive Officer, Space Communications in his address has said, “The Campaign Proudly Kashmiri will run throughout the year and will consist of different art, social, educational, sports and Cultural events besides holding series of Marathons throughout the valley. It is a movement for progress, prosperity and widening opportunities for our youngsters”. This campaign intends to involve people from different age groups kids, youngsters, senior citizens and target different activities throughout the Valley.
