SRINAGAR

The speaker legislative assembly, Mubarak Gul Friday directed Crime Branch (CB) of police to conduct a time bound inquiry into the allegations of land grabbing against some opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members including deputy speaker of the house Sartaj Madni.

The CB was directed to submit its reports in fifteen days. The speaker also directed all the concerned to submit all the related documents with him before question hour starts on Saturday.

Earlier, complete chaos was witnessed in the legislative assembly even nothing was audible for some time when M Akbar Lone, Nasir Aslam Wani and other ruling party members alleged PDP as “a party of land grabbers.”

Pandemonium over the alleged involvement of Sartaj Madni, in land grabbing forced the Speaker to adjourn the house.

Speaker Gul adjourned the house amid allegations and counter-allegations between the ruling National Conference (NC) and the PDP over the alleged land grab in Islamabad district’s Marhama area, involving over 500 acres of state land.

The NC members alleged a document pertaining to the land grab scandal carried Madni’s signatures.

Madni rose in the house when the day’s proceedings started and asserted that he would resign from the assembly if he was found involved in the alleged land grab.

Pertinently, state legislative council has already directed the state’s chief secretary to probe the matter and submit a detailed report.

In the midst of all this, Panthers Party members, led by Harsh Dev Singh, wanted the word ‘secular’ to be added to the preamble of the state constitution.
