SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather on Thursday directed the government to provide a definite timeline for finalising and implementing the proposed Government Vehicle Management Policy, 2026.
The issue came up during Question Hour in response to a question on the proposed “One Officer-One Vehicle” policy raised by MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania.
Transport Minister Satish Sharma informed the House that the General Administration Department had constituted a committee to examine the existing car and vehicle policy and recommend revisions.
He said the committee had held deliberations and a draft Government Vehicle Management Policy, 2026 had subsequently been framed. The draft is currently under consideration by the department, he said.
Taking note of the delay in finalising and implementing the policy, Rather directed the minister to apprise the House during the ongoing session of a definite timeline for its finalisation and implementation.
The Speaker stressed the need for the government to place a clear position before the House so that members are informed about the proposed timeline for giving effect to the policy.
The proposed policy seeks to rationalise the use and management of government vehicles, including consideration of the “One Officer-One Vehicle” principle.
