SRINAGAR: The Speaker of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly is set to constitute different House Committees, including three crucial financial committees.
Sources said that the process has begun to constitute these committees in accordance with the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
“The Legislative Assembly secretariat has sought names of MLAs from different political parties for their inclusion in these committees,” they said, adding that representation of the parties in these committees would be proportionate to their strength in the House.
As per the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the J&K Legislative Assembly, 13 House Committees have to be set up for different functions.
Sources disclosed that the Speaker would first constitute three financial panels—the Estimates Committee, the Public Accounts Committee, and the Committee on Public Undertakings.
Among other committees, the Speaker is likely to constitute the Privilege Committee, Environmental Committee, Petition Committee, Subordinate Legislation Committee, Government Assurances Committee, Rules Committee, General Purpose Committee, and Library Committee.
The House Committees play a vital role in scrutinising policies and reviewing government decisions. They present their reports and recommendations to the Assembly. (KNO)
