Parray was an SPO who was attached with SDPO Bejbehara when he took away four service weapons and fled on January 17, 2016. Much later, the police said they have recovered the weapons. He was arrested and jailed for almost half a year. Earlier, he was part of the security detail of a DySP who survived a militant attack.

After he was set free, he set up a mobile phone shop in his village and would earn his livelihood. On Tuesday, after the Maghrib prayers, some unknown people kidnapped him. There has not been any scuffle between the two parties, however.

Kundalan is a village located on the road connecting Shopian with Anantnag. It witnessed a fierce gun battle early this year.
