SRINAGAR: A BJP activist was shot dead in Pulwama and his dead body was located in Litter Rakh late last evening, police sources said. The slain was identified as Shabir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Pathan hamlet, who was working with BJP.

Police were approached by the family of the BJP activist complaining that their member had gone suddenly missing. They had claimed that call on his cell phone was not been picked up.

A resident of Pathan, a village located almost 10 kms from Litter Rakh, Bhat was a BJP activist and off late had been given some party position too.

Police sources said they also received information that a dead body was lying in Rakh Litter. It took police its own time to reach the village during late hours and then it took more time in identifying him. Though the civilian sources had confirmed the killing late last night, police refused to confirm saying unless it has no complete details it will not dish out any information.

Bhat had gone missing at around 6 pm and was apparently kidnapped from his village. People who knew him said he was a Dabangg style activist who was very young.

BJP spokesman has condemned the “brutal killing” of its member. Ashok Koul said he was the constituency president and in charge of social media in district Pulwama. “BJP State expresses solidarity with the family of “Shaheed” Shabir Ahmad Bhat and demands strict action against such ill elements who are spoiling peace in the valley and kill innocent people at regular intervals,” the statement quoted Koul saying.
