Baring the summer capital of the state, protest rallies were held after Jummah prayers in many parts of the valley against the hanging of Afzal Guru. One person was hit by a bullet when forces opened fire to disperse the protesters in the Sumbal are of district Bandipora.

Police sources told Kashmir Life that hundreds of protesters took to streets in Sumbal after the prayers. The protesters shouted slogans and targeted the men in uniform, sources added. Police and paramilitary troopers opened fire to disperse the protesters resulting in the injury of at least one person.

People gathered after prayers in the Redwani area of district Kulgam and defying the restrictions tried to organize a march. Police and paramilitary forces swung into action resulting in the clashes. Forces used batons and tear smoke shells to disperse the mob.

Protests were also held in Pulwama and Shopian as well but the slogan raising people were chased away by the police.
