An official from the Fire & Emergency department said that the fire broke out in a three-storey hardware store building.

“The news about the fire at Batamaloo was received at approximately 2 pm. Following this, Fire & Emergency Services personnel along with the machinery rushed to the spot and started dousing the flames,” said the Division Fire Officer (DFO) Tasaduk Ahmad.

He mentioned that the fire originated from the top storey and later engulfed the entire building. The dousing operation took six long hours due to the presence of paint, turpentine, petroleum products, PVC pipes, and other hardware items, making it necessary for us to thoroughly cool down the fire, he added.

The officer further stated, “We have gained complete control over the situation, and the fire won’t spread anymore. Firefighters from nineteen receiving stations are on the job, and more than twenty vehicles are dousing the flames.”

Tasaduk mentioned that the operation lasted for six long hours, and one vehicle has been stationed on standby at the spot to prevent any untoward incidents, considering the presence of petroleum products in the building—(KNO)
