SRINAGAR: The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir, on Tuesday said traffic movement on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) will continue to remain regulated due to ongoing road repair works, single-lane stretches and adverse road conditions at several locations.
According to the traffic advisory, commuters have been urged to avoid unnecessary travel on the highway and use it only after confirming the latest road status from the Traffic Police through its official social media platforms or the traffic helpline.
The advisory said that traffic on NH-44 will be allowed subject to fair weather and better road conditions. Passenger vehicles will be permitted to ply from both Jammu and Srinagar, while heavy motor vehicles (HMVs) will be regulated depending on road conditions and traffic pressure.
The Traffic Police said HMVs will be allowed only after assessing the prevailing situation on the highway. Oil tankers, LPG carriers and other essential supply vehicles will receive priority, while fruit-laden trucks from Kashmir carrying perishable produce will also be facilitated to minimise losses.
Authorities have advised fruit growers and transporters to avoid overloading vehicles and ensure proper documentation before starting their journey. Drivers have also been asked to carry sufficient fuel, follow lane discipline and strictly adhere to traffic instructions.
The advisory cautioned commuters against travelling during night hours on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway due to the risk of landslides, shooting stones and shooting debris, particularly between Ramban and Banihal.
Traffic Police further said no vehicle will be allowed to travel on the Mughal Road because of ongoing maintenance work and road conditions.
On the Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumri (SSG) Road, only one-way traffic will be allowed from Minamarg towards Srinagar, subject to weather and road conditions. No vehicle will be permitted to travel in the opposite direction.
Similarly, traffic on the Sinthan Road will remain one-way from Daksum towards Kishtwar. Passenger vehicles, including LMVs, private cars and taxis, will be allowed to move during the notified hours, while heavy vehicles will not be permitted.
The advisory also said that movement on the Bandipora-Gurez Road and Bhaderwah-Chamba Road will remain subject to weather conditions and local administration clearance.
The Traffic Police appealed to motorists to maintain lane discipline, avoid overtaking, refrain from unnecessary halts on vulnerable stretches and cooperate with traffic personnel for smooth movement on all routes.
