Srinagar

The 434 km Srinagar- Leh highway, the only road connecting Kashmir with the frontier region of Ladakh, reopened on Wednesday after remaining closed for six days due to snowfall and slippery road conditions.

“We have resumed traffic on the 434 km long Srinagar-Leh highway,” a traffic police official said.

He said the traffic was suspended on the highway following fresh snowfall and slippery road conditions, particularly between Sonamarg, Zojila pass, Zero point, Meenmarg and Drass.

Several light motor vehicles and trucks from Drass side were allowed towards Sonamarg in the morning around 5:00 AM, he said, adding that the vehicles from Sonamarg were allowed to move towards Kargil later in the day.
