SRINAGAR: Police on Thursday said they have arrested an extortionist with thirty criminal cases in Central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.
The police stated that they arrested the accused following a detailed investigation. The accused had a history of over 30 criminal cases and had previously been booked under the PSA twice.
According to a police spokesman, a written complaint was received by Police Post Bagyas on 10 January 2025. The applicant, Tufail Ahmad Badar, son of Mohammad Akbar and resident of Badarpora Qoimoh Kulgam, reported that he was at Shireen Bagh Super Speciality Hospital with a patient. During the night, he went outside to buy medicines from a nearby shop, where he was forcibly taken into a vehicle by an unknown person who extorted ₹8,000 from him.
A case vide FIR No. 02/2025 under Section 308(2) BNS was registered in Police Station Safakadal, and an investigation was launched.
During the investigation, the team analysed CCTV footage and other technical evidence, identifying the accused as Imtiyaz Ahmad Shah (alias 99), son of Ghulam Qadir Shah and resident of Aikal Mir Khanyar. He was subsequently arrested.
It is pertinent to mention that the accused is involved in more than 30 FIRs, including theft and extortion, in addition to being booked under PSA twice. (GNS)
