SRINAGAR: Additional General Secretary of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and former minister, Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, emphasised the critical role of students and youth in strengthening national unity and countering divisive elements threatening India’s democratic fabric.
Addressing a day-long convention organised by the National Conference Students Union (NCSU) in Samba, Sadhotra urged young people to stand against hatred and intolerance. He highlighted that India’s strength lies in its diversity, and students must actively promote harmony and camaraderie within society.
Referring to Jammu and Kashmir’s historical pluralism, Sadhotra said the region has long been a symbol of composite culture, where people from various backgrounds have coexisted peacefully. “It is the responsibility of students and youth to preserve and strengthen this unique legacy,” he stated.
The National Conference leader stressed that progressive and peace-loving citizens are increasingly recognising the need to isolate divisive forces. He condemned politics based on hatred, warning that such approaches lead only to disorder and instability.
During the event, a new NCSU committee for Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Degree College in Samba was announced. Arun Pal Singh, the Working President of NCSU, nominated Tarun Singh Choudhary as President, along with several other student leaders for key positions. Sadhotra congratulated the newly formed committee, expressing confidence that they would work to uphold secularism and counter hate-driven narratives.
Sadhotra also underscored the importance of education in shaping the nation’s future, urging students to strive for academic excellence. He reaffirmed that the government under Omar Abdullah is committed to providing a conducive learning environment in educational institutions.
Expressing concern over rising unemployment, he called for a strategic approach to address joblessness among educated youth. He warned that frustration among young people, particularly those nearing the upper age limit for government jobs, must be tackled through well-planned employment initiatives.
The convention witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who pledged to work towards unity, social harmony, and academic excellence. NCSU leaders also raised concerns over basic facilities in Pandit Prem Nath Dogra Degree College and reiterated the party’s commitment to safeguarding Jammu and Kashmir’s unique identity.
