Srinagar: Police in its recent action against drug peddlers has arrested one notorious drug peddler and detained him under PSA.
A drug peddler identified as Tariq Ahmad Wangoo, a resident of Chinkral Mohalla Habakadal at present Check Rawalpora, was involved in several cases of drug peddling including case FIR No. 32/2019 U/S 8/21 NDPS Act of PS Rajbagh pertaining to recovery of a huge consignment of illegal drugs from his possession.
It is pertinent to mention that Tariq Ahmad Wangoo was earlier arrested in different FIRs including FIR 08/2015 U/S 8/21 NDPS of PS Parimpora, FIR No. 07/2017 U/S 8/21 NDPS of P/S MR Gunj, FIR No. 02/2019 U/S 8/21 NDPS of PS Bijbehara and FIR No. 36/2015 U/S 8/21 NDPS of PS Rajbagh.
He was a notorious drug Peddler having series of FIRs against him and was responsible for peddling drugs among young students in different districts of the valley.
Meanwhile, Police in Srinagar arrested a bootlegger at a checkpoint established near Bishembar Nagar and recovered illicit liquor from his possession.
Officers at the checkpoint intercepted a Tavera vehicle bearing registration number JK03C 1121. On checking, 43 bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the possession of Mohammad Altaf Ganie, son of Abdul Gani Ganie, a resident of Mattan Anantnag. He has been taken to Police Station Khanyar where he remains in custody. Officers at the checkpoint have also seized the vehicle.
Police have registered a case FIR No. 40/2019 under relevant sections of law and initiated investigation in the matter.
Locals have lauded the efforts of Police and appealed to continue such drives in future as well. Police have resolved to act tough against inimical elements.
