SRINAGAR: Night temperatures plunged across Jammu Kashmir as several parts of the Valley reeled under intense cold, with Srinagar recording the coldest night of the season at minus 1.6°C.
According to Kashmir Weather, Srinagar recorded a minimum of -1.6°C, while Qazigund registered -1.5°C. The higher reaches witnessed even lower temperatures, with Pahalgam dipping to -3.8°C and Kupwara to -2.0°C. Budgam was the coldest spot in the Valley at -4.2°C, followed by Shopian at -4.1°C and Pampore at -3.4°C.
Other recorded temperatures included Gulmarg (-1.0°C), Kokernag (0.8°C), Bandipora (-2.6°C), Baramulla (-3.2°C), Pulwama (-1.4°C), and Ganderbal (-1.7°C). Sonamarg stood at -2.9°C, while Srinagar Airport and Awantipora registered -2.0°C and -2.2°C respectively.
In the Jammu region, Jammu City recorded a minimum of 10.0°C, while Banihal dipped to -0.5°C. Katra stood at 9.0°C, Batote at 4.5°C, Bhaderwah at 1.2°C, Udhampur at 5.0°C, Kathua at 10.2°C, Ramban at 6.1°C, Rajouri at 3.4°C, and Kishtwar at 4.2°C. Jammu Airport recorded 11.7°C.
The persistent drop in mercury signals the onset of harsh early winter conditions across the region.
