SRINAGAR: The Srinagar Smart City Electric Bus Service, inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, has received a positive response from locals, achieving a significant milestone of 5 lakh passengers within the initial 60 days of its launch.

Residents expressed relief and commended the service’s operational hours, extending into late-night periods, along with various amenities provided.

Mohammad Nadeem, a Lal Bazar resident, stated that these buses incorporate technological features that facilitate winter travel. He also emphasized the environmental conservation aspect of their battery-powered operation.

A female traveller highlighted a “positive aspect” of the smart bus, noting the segregated seating arrangement for males and females, which she believes enhances passengers’ overall sense of security.

According to details available with KNO, the Srinagar Smart City Electric Bus Service has surpassed five lakh passengers in its initial 60-day phase.

Launched on November 01, 2023, by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Srinagar Smart City Electric Bus service has experienced substantial growth, with daily ridership increasing nearly fivefold since November.

A noteworthy feature appreciated by both passengers and drivers is the comfort provided, including separate seats for the handicapped, remotely controlled for convenience.

The service operates through the night in specific areas and offers a climate-controlled environment, ensuring warmth during winters and cooling in summers—a notable and positive aspect. (KNO)
