SRINAGAR: The chief religious cleric of Kashmir, Mirwaiz-e-Kashmir, Molvi Umar Farooq, has termed the illumination of Srinagar’s historic Jama Masjid as a “historic moment,” announcing that the first phase of the project undertaken by Auqaf Jamia was completed during the holy month of Ramadan.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Mirwaiz expressed gratitude for the completion of the first phase.

“Alhamdulillah, the first phase of the Jama Masjid illumination project by Auqaf Jamia has been completed during the blessed month of Ramadan. May this enhancement add to the spiritual experience of all who visit this sacred place,” wrote Mirwaiz.

Notably, the illumination, he said, will not only beautify the centuries-old mosque but also enrich the experience of thousands of devotees who gather for prayers, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

It is worth mentioning that Jama Masjid, located in the heart of Srinagar’s old city, has been ‘a symbol of Kashmir’s religious and cultural heritage’ for centuries. (KNO)
