All J&K Stamp Vendors Association staged protests in Press Enclave Monday demanding an end to the practice of e-stamping that government is understood to have launched recently.

Protests raised banners and shouted slogans against the government.

“10-20,000 stamp vendors are likely to lose their job if government goes ahead with its decision to open up 62 branches where e-stamping would be carried out,” a protester said. “Where will we go then?” he asked.

Protesters said that outsourcing the stamping job to computers will cost them their profession and their families will have to suffer.

“We are the sole bread earners for our families,” another protester said. “While the government employees continue to enjoy perks, we still survive on meagre salaries,” he said.

They also lamented that government did not take them on board while launching the service. “At least they could have intimated us,” an elderly protester said.
