State’s first ever cricket Academy was officially inaugurated by the secretary Sports council, Waheed-ur-Rehman Para.

The first of its kind, state cricket academy is housed in the Bakshi Stadium Srinagar.

While the construction work is in progress in the area already earmarked for the purpose, the first coaching camp for under-16 boys is being held in the makeshift area in the same premises.

Speaking on the occasion, the secretary sports council apprised that establishment of cricket academy was long due owing to the demand of cricket enthusiasts and finally after receiving nod from Chief minister, the President of the Sports Council and Minister for Youth Service and Sports, Imran Ansari, it has finally taken off.

Secretary also added that academy has a long way to go and will help in grooming the young cricketers of the state.

Mubashir Hassan, Director SCA said that the main purpose of the academy is to nurture cricketers at the grass root level and intends to be nursery for producing cricketers for bigger stage.
