SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, today appealed the people to stay away from counter-insurgency operation sites for their own safety.

Khan said that assembling at the encounter sites is fraught with danger as nobody can predict the trajectory of a bullet and there is also a danger of bullet hitting people after ricocheting. He said that people should remain away from such sites to ensure their safety.

The Divisional Commissioner said that loss of precious lives is very painful both for the Government as well as the deceased family.

He appealed the parents, community elders and prayer leaders to counsel and advise youths to stay away from counter-insurgency operation sites.

In a separate statement, the divisional administration has warned intending Haj-2017 pilgrims to not get attracted to advertisements or announcements in newspapers by unregistered tour and travel operators.

“Complaints have been received that certain unregistered tour operators are announcing packages and luring people to approach them for Haj-2017 through various advertisements in newspapers.

“The general public is informed to approach only those tour operators who are registered with Ministry of External Affairs and in whose favor quota has been allotted for the pilgrimage,” a statement of the Divisional Administration said.

In case any intending pilgrim wants to enquire about the credibility and allotment of Haj seats to any particular travel agency, it is advised to contact State Haj Committee, Bemina for proper guidance and procedure to be followed for availing Haj seat form any tour operator, the statement reads.
