Strict Action For Double Trips In A Single Day By PSV: IGP Traffic

According to Traffic Police authorities, strict action will be taken against the drivers of Passenger Service Vehicles (PSV’s) making two trips within a period of 24 hours from Jammu to Srinagar or from Srinagar to Jammu.

Giving details, the communiqués issued by IGP Traffic Muneer Khan stated that a high-level meeting was held in the backdrop of PIL No. 458/2003 titled Kashmir Consumer Welfare forum and ANR V/S Commissioner Transport. The meeting was attended by IGP Traffic Muneer Khan along with RTO Kashmir and ARTO’s of the valley.

During the meeting, drivers of the Passenger Service Vehicles (PSV’s) which include Sumo’s, Tavera’s, Tempo Traveler and passenger buses etc are making two trips, within a period of 24 hours from Jammu to Srinagar or from Srinagar to Jammu, thereby causing human fatigue as drivers have no time to recoup their energies required for such long journeys. Such an uninterrupted journeys, also causes damage to the vehicles by wear and tear. This phenomenon can cause serious accidents, and can prove fatal, both for the driver, as well as commuters.

It was unanimously agreed by all the participants, that there should be a strict vigil on such PSVs, plying on the Highway, for conducting double trips in a single day. It is imperative to restrict these vehicles from making double trips to and fro in a single day.

It was decided that Traffic Check posts at Lower Munda, Nagrota and at other places, along the Highway will keep a strict vigil ensure the compliance of this directions.
