A moderate intensity quake rocked the Kashmir valley although no damage to life or property was reported from anywhere. A tremor occurred in the valley at 12:03 pm on Thursday, a Met Department official told Kashmir Life.

The quake measured 5.4 on the Richter scale with its epicenter in Hindukush Afganistan at 36.47N, 71.12E, the official said.

Kashmir is situated in an earthquake-prone region. Over 40,000 people were killed in a temblor across the Line of Control (LoC) on October 8, 2005.
