Student Detained by Counter Intelligence Kashmir for Alleged Radical Social Media Activities

SRINAGAR: The Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) unit detained Bhat Navidul Ali, a resident of Tazipora-Mohanpora in Kulgam district, over allegations of using social media to spread radical propaganda and promote anti-government sentiments.
Bhat, currently an MSc student in Lab Sciences, is accused of glamorising militancy in Jammu and Kashmir and instigating the public against the Government of India. According to CIK handout, Bhat has reportedly been in contact with an online entity involved in radicalising and motivating youth to join militant groups. Authorities claim he regularly consumes extremist content on the internet and was on the verge of joining militant ranks himself. Acting on intelligence, a specialised CIK team apprehended him for questioning.
In an effort to prevent further radicalisation, the CIK has involved Bhat’s family and community members in counselling efforts. The agency has also appealed to the youth of Kashmir to avoid such illegal activities and urged parents to monitor their children closely to ensure they are not drawn into extremist influences.
