Students on Thursday held a protests demonstration against the alleged army highhandedness in Dooru town of Islamabad in southern part of Kashmir. The anguished students alleged that some of their schoolmates were beaten by Army.

As per the reports, the protest erupted initially at Nowgam Verinag when some of the students were allegedly beaten by Army following minor stone pelting on Army vehicle that was coming from Kapran.

“Army stopped passenger busses and asked passengers to come down,” a local told Kashmir Life. “At the spot army beat a few students and took away their identity cards.”

Later other students gathered at the spot, locals said. The students marched towards Dooru town amid pro-freedom slogans.

Angry students after reaching Dooru town entered inside Government Degree College asking other students to join. “They were not allowed to come out of college,” locals said.

Local reports said that the students later started stone pelting in the main market, resulting in the shutdown in the area.

The situation in the town is tense and the students were protesting while this report was being filed.
