SRINAGAR

As it rained for a few hours in parts of Chenab Valley and snowed lightly in upper belts of Bhaderwah, Kashmir heaved a sigh of relief. A day after Srinagar recorded coldest day this season, situation improved as Sunday market worked under sunshine, almost no fog and even air traffic was almost normal.

Officials said the improvement in temperature was impacted by the chill-break by Chenab Valley weather change where light rain was reported from areas between Doda, Banihal and Katra. Bhaderwah even had light snow, this morning.

The improved situation could now bring some rain in parts of Kashmir too, weatherman hopes.

Night temperature improved to minus 4.4 degrees after the day concluded with eight degree, the lowest day temperature this season.

Kargil continues to have the lowest temperature at minus 9.9 degrees Celsius and Leh is playing second fiddle with a few decimals more at minus 9.4.

Weatherman indicates that the temperature in Jammu will improve substantially this week – going to 25 degrees during the day as Kashmir will witnesses enough improvement that rain will break the chill cycle. Jammu is already having 22 degrees day temperature.

Srinagar’s Dal lake and some other water bodies were seen partially frozen this morning but it melted away by noon.
