SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district arrested a suspected drug peddler and recovered narcotics during a checking operation at Khudwani Bypass on Thursday.
According to police, a team from Police Station Qaimoh had set up a checkpoint to monitor suspicious persons and vehicles. During the operation, an individual identified as Talib Hussain Sheikh, son of Khurshid Hussain Sheikh, resident of KG Raina, Wanpoh, was found moving suspiciously with a bag.
On searching him, the police recovered 30 grams of charas and 500 grams of ground cannabis-like contraband substance. The accused was arrested on the spot.
A case under FIR No. 79/2025, registered under sections 8/20 of the NDPS Act, has been filed at Police Station Qaimoh. Police said further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify other links in the network.
A senior police officer said Kulgam Police remain committed to eradicating the drug menace. “Drug peddlers are determined to destroy lives, but we will not allow them to succeed. Continuous efforts are being made to dismantle such networks,” he said.
Police have appealed to the public to assist in the fight against drugs by reporting any suspicious activity related to narcotics in their areas.
