SRINAGAR: Security forces launched a cordon-and-search operation in the remote Surankote area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district on Tuesday following inputs about the suspected movement of militants at two locations, officials said.
Personnel from the Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group (SOG), assisted by Rashtriya Rifles troops, carried out searches in Dhara Sangla, Gujjar Naar and Kherowali Dhok, besides adjoining forested villages, they said.
The operation was launched after security agencies received information indicating the movement of two separate groups of suspected militants in the densely forested area, according to officials.
No contact had been established with the suspected militants till the latest reports, officials said, adding that the search operation was continuing as security personnel systematically combed the area.
