Suspected militants attacked a CRPF party in Shopian, when it was returning from a polling station guarding polling staff on Thursday evening.

Sources said that the firing incident happened between Nagbal and Handew on Shopian Zainapora road resulted in injuries to some polling staff members.

Sources said that a local polling official was killed in the incident however, it was not confirmed officially.

Sources said that immediately, Army swung into action and cordoned off the area. They added that polling staff members in the area have been shifted to safer places and the operation against suspected militants was going on when the reports last came in.

Meanwhile, angry protesters attacked a CRPF vehicle in Mimendar area of the Shopian town when it was returning to the district headquarters.

Sources said that protesters pelted rocks on the vehicle and the attack was so severe that the driver lost its control over it and it turned turtle resulting in the injuries to many CRPF personnel
