SRINAGAR

Thanking people for completely boycotting the election, despite the curbs, hurdles and arrests, chairman Hurriyat Conference (G), Syed Ali Geelani said that the people of south Kashmir have proven their greatness and pro-freedom sentiments and expressed hope that the central and north Kashmir will follow suit on April 30 and May 7 respectively.

He said that the young blood of Kashmir is filled with passion, enthusiasm and resistance which indicates that India have few days left in Kashmir and now they can’t continue their oppression and forced occupation for long.

In a statement issued to CNS, the Hurriyat chairman said that government used every possible way to make this election drama a success. “The whole pro-freedom leadership was imprisoned at their homes and different police stations, hundreds of youth were detained while as people were lured by providing employment and other promises and cash were also distributed among the people. The army and police are using their traditional tools of oppression, fear and harassment to force the people to vote. They (Army and police) have increased their patrolling in the villages and the far-flung areas and they have also launched an unstoppable arrest spree and raids to harass the common people,” Geelani said.

Geelani said that despite the curbs hurdles and the use of force, the people of Kashmir have out rightly rejected the pro-Indian politicians and elections and they should not only be hailed for this but they have sent a clear message across the world as well as Indian that the situation in Jammu and Kashmir have completely changed and the people can’t be deceived or hoodwinked anymore.

He said that our educated generation has become politically enough mature and sensitive and they have got the differences between the right and the wrong. A pro-freedom leader rejected the government figures of votes and said that the government is exaggerating the percentage of voting, while as the actual voter turnout is not more than 2 or 3 percent and this low percentage is because of the situation of harassment and fear created by Indian forces, else there would have been zero percent voting.

While condemning the attacks on the media persons, Geelani said that the government is frustrated by the complete election boycott of the people and government forces are working out this frustration on the journalists who are working in an independent way to show the world the real picture of the election drama in Jammu and Kashmir. He expressed sympathy and solidarity with the injured journalists and said that the attacks on journalists are actually the attacks on the freedom of press and the democracy, which should be condemned at all forms.

Geelani thanked the people especially the youth from the core of his heart and said that ‘I am very pleased with their courage, spirit, bravery and sentiment of freedom and my belief has become firmer that now Indian can’t hold Kashmir under its forced occupation for long’. There military might, rigidness and arrogance of power will met a humiliating defeat in the hands of Kashmiri people. The pro-freedom leader expressed his hope that the people of central and north Kashmir will also completely boycott the upcoming election drama on 30 April and 7 May and will held protest demonstrations after the Magrib prayers on 29 April and6 may respectively.
