Ahead of polling day for Lok Sabha seat, suspected militants attacked and tried to blow up a polling station in Watrigam, area of Baramulla district on Tuesday, officials said.

They said the proposed polling station is located in a government school in Watrigam village of Sopore area in Baramulla district.

Sources said that suspected militants used an improvised explosive device to blow up the polling station. They added that the building suffered damage in the blast.

However police spokesman told Kashmir Life that a petrol bomb was hurled at high school Watergam in Dangiwacha, which resulted in some damage to the window panes of the said school.

He added that there was no designated polling booth in the said building.

Meanwhile police have arrived on the spot and they are investigating the case.

The Baramulla constituency is scheduled to go to polls on Wednesday.

Sharif-ud-Din Shariq of National Conference is locked in a close battle with the oppositions Muzaffar Hussain Baig of PDP.
