SRINAGAR

The convicts in rape and death case of Tabinda Gani have been sentenced to death by a local court in North Kashmir’s Kupwara.

The judgement comes eight years after the brutal rape and murder of 13 year old school girl Tabinda Gani in Kupwara.

Sadiq Mir, Azhar Ahmad Mir residents of Langate and two non-locals Mochi Jahangir Ansari of West Bengal and Suresh Kumar of Rajasthan are the convicts.

Pertinently, the quantum of sentence to the convicts was earlier reserved twice.

In 2007, Tabinda was first abducted, raped and brutally murdered by the four convicts Kupwara. The family of the victim had demanded death sentence for the convicts since the crime falls under ‘rarest of rare’ category.

Earlier, Principal District and Sessions Judge Kupwara, Muhammad Ibrahim Wani, had held all the four guilty of gang rape and cold blooded murder of Tabinda Gani Shah of Batpora Langate.
