Over the issues of Damini gang rape case with regards to Kashmir, MLA Langate, Engineer Rashid criticized the civil society, media and politicians of India about the punishments given to stone pelters in Delhi and in Kashmir.

“Kashmiris have a right to seek answer from the rest of the country that why those people pelting stones on police ad damaging government and public property on the streets of New Delhi and elsewhere not being treated the same way when even more heinous and serious incidents take place in Kashmir”, asked Rashid.

Rashid in a statement informed that dozens of minors seeking justice in similar cases and other human rights violations have been booked under PSA in Kashmir while those miscreants pelting stones in the streets of New Delhi have full patronage of civil society, media and Indian Politicians. “A stone pelter is a stone pelter whether he hails from Kashmir or Delhi and principle of natural justice demands that irrespective of the cause for which he is pelting stones, they should be given same treatment, but a Kashmiri stone pelter whether he is minor or an adult, a man or a woman, to book him behind the bars under PSA and to ruin his career is being made his destiny”, reads the statement.

About the arrest of Zahida Akhtar over the charges of stone pelting, Rashid asked New Delhi to explain that why the protesters in Delhi are taken for protecting the honour, dignity and rights of women and when in Kashmir, people ask for same they are given indifferent treatment.

Rashid also said the discriminatory attitude has increased the gap between New Delhi and Kashmir. “Kashmiris have every reason to believe that they are being treated as second class citizens and Tabinda Gani cannot be Damini in any case as of the criminals involved in the Tabinda Gani’s rape and murder case is a non Kashmiri hailing from Bihar and to protect him means serving National interest.”
