With elections round the corner, members of different political parties are switching to other sides of fence. off late the trend of activists and journalists joining the fray is increasing.

According to statement of State’s principal opposition, Tahir Syeed, a journalist; former deputy director prosecution, Bari Andrabi; political activist, Syed M Hussain and  Gujjar leader, Deen Mohammad Cheetah joined Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Associated with the media from the last eight years, Tahir Syeed is a Kashmir based journalist.  He is grandson of late Anwar Masoodi (younger brother of Moulana Mohammad Syeed Masoodi).

Pertinently, a close associate of Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, Anwar Masoodi was the member Jammu and Kashmir constituent assembly 1951 and the member of legislative council besides, founding general secretary of National Conference.

Bari Andrabi, 49, is from South Kashmir’s Pucchal area in Pulwama. Having voluntarily retired as deputy director, Bari Andarbi is a law graduate from Kashmir University. He also holds Diploma in Business Administration.

Syed MohammadHussain is grandson of Aga Syed Mustafa of Budgam. A businessman and a social worker, Hussain has been active in the politics.

 A Gujjar leader, Deen Mohammad Cheetah, has been active in the state politics from decades now. He was provincial organizer of the NC.

The entrants, on the occasion, said, “it is the performance of the PDP both in the government and in opposition and the credibility of the party leadership that motivated them to join the party. PDP not only changed the political discourse in the state but helped to bring about a new change in the overall situation on the ground.”

The new entrants were welcomed by party president, Ms Mehbooba Mufti in presence of senior party leader, Muzzafar Hussain Baig, at her official Gupkar residence.
