SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) chief spokesperson and MLA Zadibal, Tanvir Sadiq, on Monday questioned whether the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is attempting to realign with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
Speaking to reporters, Sadiq said that something is “cooking” within the PDP, which the party has kept hidden. “It is good to see Mehbooba Ji meeting the Lieutenant Governor. But she needs to answer whether the doors of the LG were closed for the past five years?” he asked.
“I don’t understand why all of a sudden political parties have started meeting the Lieutenant Governor. Yesterday, the Apni Party met him, and today the PDP rushed to Raj Bhavan. Are there any back-channel talks going on? Is she going to join hands with the BJP again?” he questioned.
“She should reveal why she didn’t take all these steps related to the welfare of Kashmiri Pandits during her tenure. Whatever has been done for the KPs so far was only taken forward during the tenure of Omar Abdullah. We are committed to the return of KPs. We expect the restoration of statehood soon and will take measures to ensure a sense of security among them for their return,” Sadiq added.
Pertinently, PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti, along with senior party leader Mehboob Beigh, met Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370, where she presented a letter with multiple demands to him.
Sadiq further said that strict directions have been issued by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah regarding the assessment of losses to the tourism sector, adding that the issue of assistance will be pursued with the Government of India for a package to support affected tourism stakeholders.
