“EC is well within its powers to postpone or countermand Anantnag election but if so @MehboobaMufti must reign & Governor should take charge,” Omar said in one his tweets.

“Tassaduq’s statement is an indictment of his sister @MehboobaMufti’s government & its abject failure. How can the BJP not see this?”

Omar was reacting to the Mufti Jr’s morning presser in which he appealed the ECI should defer the South Kashmir polls in wake of the happenings in Sunday. Eight civilians were killed on Sunday when the polling for bye-polls was held. He said he is willing to formally withdraw from the election, if it helps Election Commission to defer the polls.

In Delhi, Home Minister Rajnath Singh was quoted saying that the situation in Kashmir does not require a longer discussion. “There are some people who throw stones on our soldiers,” Singh was quoted saying by TV channels. “But see the larger heartedness of our jawans, when there is some crisis, the same jawans save the lives of these stone-throwers.”

Election Commission has not reacted to the PDP demand so far. Mufti said the party has sent a formal communication to the ECI.
